Multimedia Development
Multimedia is a fundamental building
block of future training, education, information dissemination,
and technology transfer activities. The Emergency Management Center
in conjunction with the University of Tennessee Energy and Environment
Resources Center have developed a multimedia laboratory to support
the production of CD ROMS, WWW documents, and other multimedia distribution
technologies. The laboratory is located in Building 4500 North at
Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
The laboratory includes a number of workstations
to support various aspects of audio and visual production. A video
workstation supports the digitization of VHS and Hi-8 videotapes
and is used for video editing. An audio workstation supports digitization
of cassette and DAT tapes and audio editing. An image capture workstation
is used to scan pictures and 35 mm slides and manipulate graphical
files. A digital Hi-8 camcorder and a digital still camera are also
used for image acquisition. Several authoring workstations support
the integration of various media and the development of multimedia
applications. A final workstation is set up to master CD ROMS.
