This training video focuses on community-level evacuations that involve the movement of a large number of people. Evacuations caused by a range of hazards have been well researched. This training uses this research to and experts from around the country to discuss:
- evacuation timing,
- evacuation strategies,
- destinations of evacuees,
- behavioral issues,
- constraints to evacuation, and
- the impact of false alarms on subsequent evacuations.
It also discusses:
- how people respond to warnings to evacuate,
- non-compliance issues, and
- planning for vulnerable populations and individuals with special needs.
Finally it covers:
- traffic control,
- phased evacuation strategies,
- contra-flow or reverse-lane traffic, and
- modeling evacuation times.
The target audience for this video includes:
- emergency planners,
- elected officials,
- public information personnel, and
- others who may need to plan and direct emergency evacuations of communities.
